Our Treasures that Rest... on the Old Pie Safe...
As Wanda and I were headed home, from a long day, Gathering... We were discussing the term... 'Iowa Farmhouse Style'... I asked her, her interpretation... It was a clean, white, and off white palate, with bone, beige, tans, and muted browns...a slick, and cleaned down version of country... a Pottery Barn, feel... hmmm... This is Not, what I am referring to...I'm referring to the 'Emma Vislechel', style...the... 'Flora Belle Shuck', style....I'll be sharing that look with you, in weeks ahead...After hearing Wanda's interpretation...well... I'm a bit apprehensive about sharing Emma's Style... But... I knew Emma... when I was 5 years old... Her home has always... always... been in my soul...ever since... I never felt more, safe, loved and wanted, than when I was in Frank and Emma's Farmhouse... Our home, looks much like it... I'll share... soon...But... here's a fair warning... It's not something you see in magazines, today... Trendy... ah, nope... I'm in it for the long haul...
Come on in... sit awhile... have a slice of fresh Dill Bread, and we'll leave all of the World's problems, outside the old screen door......
'til next time...

Oh, don't ya just love driving by the old farmhouses and wondering, letting your imagination go! Who established it, where did they come from, what did the land & the home look like when it was 1st built? That farmhouse is saying come on in fix me up, take care of me and I will take care of you. Isn't it sad they just sit empty!I would love to take all the old farmhouses give them a little TLC and add life again to them! Forget the new houses, I love the smell and the character of old farmhouses!

I love your original blog, because you tell it like it is; but I am looking forward to seeing what you conjure up for this new adventure.Judy@Leolas
ReplyDeleteOoh... glad to find you on this blog! I'm anxious to see your vision of Iowa Farmhouse... we might be on the same page. I don't see Pottery Barn, I see my grandparent's (the family farm) home in rural Iowa. Big open outdated kitchen with a HUGE grate in the middle that you didn't want to lose your crayons in! Or I see the house my other grandparent's lived in, sloping floors, big wood stove... I can't wait to read your story! Looking forward to it, your fellow-Iowan, Kim
